A Kid & A Comic – Hospital Edition
Overview
This flagship project brings together literacy, creativity, and compassion. The A Kid & A Comic – Hospital Edition a newspaper produced by famous artists around the country. The stories are published quarterly in the Comic Cove newspaper, distributed to hospitals across Pennsylvania and Chicago.
Objectives
- Promote literacy through creative writing and visual storytelling
- Encourage empathy and community service
- Bring joy to hospitalized children through peer-created comics
Graphic Novel Book Buddy Program
Overview
The Graphic Novel Book Buddy program pairs local students with reading mentors — comic creators, high school volunteers, or literacy advocates — to explore storytelling through graphic novels. Each session combines reading, discussion, and creative response, helping students develop comprehension, vocabulary, and writing confidence.
Objectives
- Promote reading fluency through visual storytelling
- Build comprehension and communication skills
- Foster mentorship and positive community relationships
- Create a safe, inspiring space for reluctant readers

A news paper format was the perfect time machine to the days of Saturday morning cartoons and a bowl of cereal. A full size paper, in color, with games, art, and a ton of comic strips that appealed to every big kid and a few of the little ones as well. Puzzles meant to be completed and written in, coloring panels meant to be colored and a paper you can fold up and take with you anywhere. With hopes that I wasn’t alone in thinking this was a great idea, I began reaching out to all the artists I had developed relationships with the last few year and the response was overwhelming.
